Fiesta Educativa Programs

Fiesta Educativa’s current family-based activities and programs include conferences, and development of parent support groups; community outreach; educational and training workshops; referral services; research; special needs advocacy; leadership development and promotion of public awareness about social service programs and policies. Fiesta Educativa, Inc. has also replicated its model in New Mexico and Texas. Current projects include:

Fiesta Familiar: A home-based family training program focused on parent education, developed by Fiesta Educativa in 1990, which provides a family-centered, family-focused education in the home of families who have members that are disabled or have special needs. Services are currently provided in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Imperial Valley, San Jose, and San Bernardino County.
Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRC): Funded by the US Department of Education to provide services to Latino and Chinese communities in the Los Angeles area.
Marguerite Casey Foundation (3 year grant): Trains and activates local parent leaders in low income areas throughout California to become effective advocates for their children and to become involved in legislation to affect systemic change.
California Consumer Protection Foundation Grant: Technology grant promoting the use of telecommunications throughout the agency’s program service network and increasing client and staff access to health and disability service information with technology. This Grant ended on 12/30/06. Fiesta Educativa Staff, Parents in Orange County, Imperial County, Inland Empire, San Jose, and Sacramento benefited from the objectives of this grant.
Autism Parent Education Program (APEP): Available through the ELARC and SGPRC. APEP empowers parents through 16 hours of education so that parents can become effective advocates and collaborate with existing delivery system agencies. Parents will understand the Autism Spectrum, learn of available resources, and the existing interventions to help with behavior, social, and communication deficits common to children with autism.
The California Endowment Capacity Building Project: the focus is to improve health outcomes for families of children with special needs in Los Angeles County.
Fiesta Educativa also conducts an annual state-wide conference in Los Angeles. Regional conferences are currently established in San Diego, Sacramento, Orange County, San Jose and Imperial Valley and in 11/04/06; the Inland Empire hosted their first conference.
Autism Conference occurs annually in Los Angeles.
Leadership training has been developed for the San Gabriel Valley/Pomona, Imperial Valley, and Inland Empire.
