Fiesta Familiar, a new parent education concept, developed by Fiesta Educativa in 1990, is family-centered, family-focused, and offers an opportunity for education in the home of families who have members with special needs.

This family empowerment model is unique in that it takes into account the social, cultural, and linguistic characteristics of each family. Each family identifies its individual needs for information and education. It is a family-driven , community-based model in which parents helping parents is key to its success.

Fiesta Familiar provides training and information in the home.

Families volunteer to host a Fiesta Familiar in their home and they:

  • Choose the date & time
  • Select the topic to be discussed - Invite other interested
parents to a pot luck ...lunch or dinner
  • Work with Fiesta Familiar parent leaders to plan their own meeting
  • It is not necessary to have a large number of persons attending or
a large home to host a Fiesta Familiar meeting. What is important
is that the invited parents feel comfortable and at home.
